Jay Road is a seamless sweater for kids and teens aged six to sixteen. Simple cable twists are used to accentuate the form of the yoke and to provide interest on the sleeves.

With its moderate ten to fifteen percent ease, split hems and low hip length, it is intended to be comfortable and warm for wearing over jeans or tights, but not ‘oversized’.

It is worked in DK yarn from the top down, with short rows used to form the neck shaping. Stitches are picked up under the arms before working the sleeves and torso in the round. The sleeves are worked last, also in the round.

The pattern is suitable for confident intermediate knitters. The neck shaping requires working short rows while also knitting a pattern of k and p stitches according to a wide chart read in both directions (working on both the right and wrong side of the work). This most complex part of the sweater is, however, completed in just a few rows and afterwards the cable twist and construction are straightforward.

The jersey got its name from the family holiday spot where the cousins spent time roasting marshmallows while Mum and Aunty contemplated knitting designs that would have been great for the occasion.
