The pattern is customisable to your wearer’s head. The instructions explain how to take measurements and input these into the online calculator to get your own customised instructions.

For those that aren't able to take measurements the pattern also includes a guideline of measurements for different ages and sizes, ranging from 6 month baby to a X-Large adult.       

A wide range of yarn can be used - from 4 Ply to 10 Ply. The pattern explains how to measure the unique gauge of your yarn and input these into the online calculator.

The yardage will vary depending on the size and type of yarn you choose. Below is a rough guide to the amount needed when working with a standard DK / 8 ply yarn like those in the images.

Use round knitting needles in the size recommended for your yarn (and about 45mm in length) for working the main part of the hat. You will also need one needle size down in the same length for working the ribbed band. For example, if 4mm (US 6) needles are recommended, you will also need 3.75mm (US 5) needles for working the band.

For working the smaller circumference at the crown of the head you will also need four double-pointed needles in the same size that you use for the main (stockinette) part of the hat. Alternatively, if you prefer the magic loop method, use a longer length round needle (see techniques).

This pattern is customisable to the specific gauge of your yarn, keeping within a range of about 16-32 stiches and 25-38 rows per 10cm (4 inches).
